“Right Brain Left Brain” Trailer

Filed under: Uncategorized — Colby @ 10:39 am

Harnessing both hemispheres of mental prowess Think Thank sets out to create endless possibilities on snowboards. Here is a little tease from the upcoming project “Right Brain Left Brain (A Think Thank Double Feature)” Get stoked, then go ride!

Think Thank goes straight to the dome with “Right Brain Left Brain” Meticulously messy, precisely unpredictable and controlled chaos; snowboarding is everything and can do anything. Such a lofty pursuit takes both halves of one’s brain. Think Thank is taking the time this season to pull our brains apart, examine the differences and then put them back stronger than ever. Creative control concisely conjured for cuticle carousing co-opting corrosive comatose inducing creatures. Thanks again brain!

NORTHWEST FILM FORUM  PRESENTS

Visual Acoustics

January 29-February 4, Daily at 7, 9pm

Seattle Premiere

Narrated by Dustin Hoffman, Visual Acoustics celebrates the life and career of Julius Shulman, the world’s greatest architectural photographer, whose images brought modern architecture to the American mainstream. Shulman, who passed away this year, captured the work of modern architects since the 1930s, including Frank Lloyd Wright, Richard Neutra, John Lautner and Pierre Koenig. His images epitomized the singular beauty of Southern California’s modernist movement and brought its iconic structures to the attention of the general public. This unique film is both a testament to the evolution of modern architecture and a joyful portrait of the magnetic, whip-smart gentleman who chronicled it with his unforgettable images.

Haiti Fundraiser/Art Sale

Filed under: Uncategorized — Ryan @ 12:42 am

Hi All -

I’m hosting an Art Sale / Haiti Fundraiser on Valentines Day, Feb. 14th from 11am-6pm at my studio located at 3234 California Avenue SW in West Seattle.

Anyone who would like to donate, simply give me a ring or email, and by all means, forward this information along to anyone who would like to buy some art and help the earthquake victims in Haiti at the same time.

ALL proceeds will go directly to doctors without borders, partners in health, or mercy corp - the art buyers will write checks to these organizations directly, and in doing so, get the tax write off.  My goal is to raise several thousand dollars to send off by the end of the weekend . . .

I’ll be selling encaustic paintings, some ceramics, and hand-made cards - other artists are donating oil and acrylic paintings, photographs, jewelry, and crafts.  It should be a great selection!  I’ve got painters Juan Alonso (www.juanalonso.info) and Diane Culhane (www.dianeculhaneart.com) on board, photographer Conrad Chavez of Brightbox Studio (www.conradchavez.com), and Smersh Design Jewelry (www.clickdesignthatfits.com)!

So save the date, and . . . give your love to Haiti this valentines day!

Best,

Stephanie

Love Hurts

Filed under: Uncategorized — Ryan @ 8:16 pm

LOVE HURTS

Hello All,

We hope your new year is going well, we kicked ours off with a bang. Thank you to all of those who participated and came out for Slash in the New Year. The show was a huge success, with over 13 artists involved as well as over 150 attendees (including Peter Line and Dave Duncan!). If you were unable to make the opening last month click here to see photos of the night’s events. The artwork was not only expectionally gorey, but was very well done, especially the pieces by Jose Rodriguez III, click here to see the gallery sans all the people.

As usual we have been up to some other projects outside of the studio as well, including a solo show, Fragile Violence, at Throwbacks Northwest for the Capital Hill Artwalk. Click here to see photos of those works, they are ceramic street weapons. And stay tuned for several new upcoming projects to be announced here in the near future.

For Febuary we are excited to announce our next exhibit, Love Hurts. An art exhibition focused on tattoo art and the artists devoted to the craft. There is a real connection between love and devotion and tattoo art. These artists create on the daily, and create for life. There will be artists representing Liberty Tattoo, Alki Beach Tattoo and some others.
So come on down this first thursday, Feb 4th, to the Electric Coffin Studio and check out Love Hurts. Look at the art work on the walls, as well as on the human canvases. Get something pretty for your living room or commit to something more permanent. Either way, the gallery is going to be filled to the brim of really awesome art that you are not going to want to miss out on.

The show will take place on First Thursday, February 4th, 2010 , at The Electric Coffin Studio from 6-10pm. 212 Alaskan Way S, Seattle, WA 98104.

Spacecraft ninja Mikey Wier

Spacecraft snow ninja Mikey Wier takes a banana and splits it ::

Winter is finally rocking here in Tahoe.  A series of storms has been dumping snow every day this week.  Kirkwood was A grade this morning.  That means the backcountry is getting good. I just wanted to share these photos of my new favorite possession.  This board was a collaboration between a few friends and i.   I started with a Lib-Tech Skate Banana and with the help of Chris Edmonds of Leeward cinema cut it in half and transformed it into a pair of skies.  Then we added a Voile split board kit that was given to me by Corey Rich of Aurora photos.  Add a pair of skins and the end result is the best backcountry vehicle available to man kind.  I’ve only got a few days in on it but am loving it so far.  No need for resorts, snowmobiles, snowshoes, boundary restrictions or lift passes.   It’s quite, low impact and perfect for getting to and shredding down the best lines around.  I’d recommend it to everyone but then all the close to the road lines would start getting too crowded.

Attached is a photo of the first backcountry line on my new Banana Split.  Just some little brapers we like to hit early season.  Kicked off a little sluff and had to just point it over the double dropper.

Also check out some shots of surfing the backcountry last winter on the Lib-Tech skate banana from First Tracks latest release “Droppin”  (Shameless self promotion i know…)

http://www.vimeo.com/8682800

If your in the mood for some more shred, there’s going to be some split boarding featured in BURL productions latest project entitled GREEN RUSH.  An eco friendly action sports and lifestyle movie.  Chris Edmonds and Jeremy Jones have spent the last couple winters trekking Deeper into the backcountry than just about anyone else out there.  Chris has graciously provided us with some of Jeremy’s epic split board lines from the Tahoe area.

Hope this gets you pumped to get out there and shred.

Mikey

Solar Plane Takes Flight

Filed under: Uncategorized — Colby @ 11:14 am

Bertrand Piccard has a dream to fly around the world in a plane without using fuel. It looks like he’s going to Make It Happen!

piccard

Last month he took his first test flight, taking lift off in the solar powered plane, Solar Impulse, for the first time. Everyone said it was impossible. He had to go to boat designers who didn’t know it was impossible to make his dream reality. After 6 intensive years of design and testing Piccard is on track for is goal.

solar_impulse_test_flight1

Sometime soon he is going to fly around the world in the Solar Impulse, day and night, for 20 days. He has a blog to follow his teams progress which you can view here.

Extra history for you: Bertrand’s dad was the first person to travel to the deepest depth of the ocean and his grandfather was the first person to enter our stratosphere.

Moral of the story: Make it happen and don’t let someone tell you it’s impossible.
